Punta Prima Beach

Punta Prima

Home » Blog » Punta Prima

Punta Prima is a medium sized, but still essentially a quiet resort on the far south eastern coast of Menorca. Located in the municpality of Sant Lluis, it’s just a short hop from the capital Mahon and only 20 – 25 minutes from the airport.

It’s very much a family resort with a mix of privately owned properties and a selection of hotels and hotel apartments. Punta Prima has everything you need for a relaxing break including a good selection of restaurants, beach and souvenir shops, a large supermarket, chemist and even a 24 hours Doctors surgery.

Accommodation in Punta Prima

There are a number of aparthotels in Punta Prima, and as the resort is family friendly, these prove very popular with families. Apartmentos Punta Prima Beach apartments are a good value choice and tastefully furnished. The Bimbolla Apartments are also a low cost, budget friendly place to stay in Punta Prima.

Punta Prima does have a couple of excellent hotels, including a couple of 5 star offerings. The Occidental Hotel is a great hotel for families and boasts, not one, but five large outdoor pools. It even has it’s own water park. Another option is the 5 star Insotel Punta Prima Prestige Hotel which provides its guests with a choice of three restaurants and a hoast of sporting and wellness activities. The hotel also has a 5 star option for families too.

Many of the villas and apartments in Punta Prima are privately owned, but of course, a large proportion of these are rented out to holidaymakers just like you. You can rent one of these via the likes of AirBnb, Booking.com and other accommodation portals. You will need to arrange your own flights and airport transfer of course, but the south easterly location of Punta Prima allows for a relatively short taxi transfer from the airport.

Punta Prima Beach

A good sized, Blue Flag beach runs adjacent to many of the shops and restaurants of Punta Prima and as such, is an easy reach for most people staying here. The fine white sands slope gently into the the crystal clear sea which makes it a great beach for little ones. There are also fine views out to the island of ‘Illa de l’Aire’ and it’s lighthouse.

Swimming a little deeper though should be done with caution as the beach faces the open sea and offshore currents can make swimming dangerous at times and during certain weather conditions. A warning flag system is always in operation though so only swim if the green flags are raised. When they are, you’ll be blessed with waters that make snorkelling a delight. Pedalos are also available to hire during the summer months.

Eating Out

There’s a decent selection of restaurants in Punta Prima, catering for a variety of tastes and budgets. It’s worth booking in high season though as the number of visitors looking for an evening meal will exceed the number of seats available. You’ll find fine dining at Chiringuito Aire and some lovely local fish dishes over at La veja Negra. Most of the restaurants can be found along the road behind the beach, but there are others hidden away on the side streets nearby. Cancholo’s, towards the rear of the resort make some fantasic pizzas and is very well regarded. If you enjoy eating with a sea view, El Faro de Punta Prima is hard to beat in the resort with views out to the lighthouse.

Punta Prima is primarily a family resort – as such, at time of writing, there is not a huge selection of bars here but that does help to keep the resort quieter than most. The hotels do have their own bars onsite of course and that’s not to say another glass or two of wine cannot be ordered after your evening meal if eating later into the evening at most of the restaurants.

Activities in Punta Prima

There is a large water park which can be reached on foot from Punta Prima. Generally though, activities are a bit limited in the resort itself. You’ll find a number of the restaurants have a little play area for the children to keep them occupied. However, Punta Prima is handily placed for visiting Mahon with regular bus journeys into the capital. Alternatively, the resort of Binibeca is just 5km to the west. This is worth a visit to marvel at the archicecture which (despite!) being created in the 1970’s, mimics fisherman’s cottages in a traditional Mediterranean coastal harbour village.
