Cala Blanca

Cala Blanca is a small resort on the western coast of Menorca. Built in 1990, it is just 3 miles from Ciutadella and is home to some of the best sunsets in Menorca. Catch the evening light just right and you’ll be treated with gorgeous views over the sea to the distant mountains of Mallorca.

Cala Blanca resort

Cala Blanca is an ideal resort for families and couples as it is relatively quiet, even in the height of summer. It’s definitely not one for late night revellers but then this is Menorca- so we’d point them in the direction of another island.

Cala Blanca’s Beach

The beach at Cala Blanca is a delightful cove of white sand that shelves gently into the warm waters of the Mediterranean. It’s a relatively small beach by Menorcan standards but it provides a safe bathing environment in calm waters and is also great for snorkelling. Such pretty aesthetics come with an added popularity and as such, the beach can get very busy, especially during July and August. Another small beach is located as you approach the neighbouring resort of Cala Santandria.

Accommodation in Cala Blanca

The resort of Cala Blanca is predominantly comprised of self catering apartments, private holiday homes and villas, although some large hotels are also located within the resort. Most of the hotels are located towards the rear of the resort, but thanks to Cala Blanca’s small size, are within easy reach of the beach, bars and restaurants. If a hotel’s proximity to the beach is your priority, the Globales Mediterrani is not too far from the bay. Alternatively, for peace and quiet away from the main resort, Globales Cala Blanca may be something to cast your eye over.

Villas and apartments are found in every corner of the resort, with some boasting fabulous sea views. Although privately owned, many, if not most are available to rent one way or another. Remember, AirBnb is not the be all and end all when it comes to holiday homes. There are many other accommodation websites such as Booking.com, VRBO and Holidu where similar properties can be rented via the accommodation owner.

Restaurants & Evening Entertainment

A small selection of bars and restaurants can be found overlooking the sea with some perched on the waters edge itself. Blanc Toboganes is one of these, although perhaps not a fine dining experience, it does include a water slide to keep the kids entertained. You will find however, a larger choice a little further back in the main, pedestrianised resort. Sa Quadra is high regarded by many a visitor – charming to look at with bougainvillea decorating the exterior and combined with some excellent dishes for the hungry diner.

Whilst there are some bars and other late evening entertainment in Cala Blanca – if wishing for a wider choice, bus or taxi journeys can be taken easily from the resort, to nearby Ciutadella, the old capital of Menorca – or alternatively to the larger resort of Cala n’Bosch on the south westerly tip of the island.

Out and about near Cala Blanca

As already mentioned, Ciutadella is just a short bus journey away – or a long walk! The old capital of Menorca is a charming place to visit. It’s narrow streets a riot of coloured buildings, whether they be gift shops, cafés, clothes shops or simply places of residence or business. The are some fabulous restaurants to be found here and not all along the harbour’s edge. Many are hidden away down these narrow side streets and can lead to you the overwhelming feeling of having made a cuisine discovery.

Shopping for provisions can be pricey in the resorts and Cala Blanca is not different. There are a few small supermarkets down in the centre of the resort. However, if you’ve hired a car you’ll be able to stock up to your hearts’ content at the nearby Diskont Hypermercado in Santandria where prices are more akin to the norm. It’s one of the largest supermarkets on the island and sells everything from groceries, household cleaning products and clothes. There’s plenty of fresh fish, a bakery, cheeses and all the supersized fruit and veg you could wish for.
