On the face of it, being spoiled for choice when it comes booking accommodation in Menorca seems like a blessing – the downside however is just trying to figure out where best to start. There’s so many hotel groups, travel agencies and villa rental companies that it can frazzle your mind – and that’s before we even consider booking privately with an owner and organising flights, car hire etc. etc.
All is not not lost and hopefully our little guide to booking accommodation in Menorca will point you in the right direction and make the whole process a little more streamlined. So let’s take a look at what kind of accommodation is widely available in Menorca with a few recommendations on where to start your search…
Hotels in Menorca
Needing no introduction, but we’ll give them one anyway. The larger resorts in Menorca all have a number of excellent hotels. These hotel holidays see you allocated a room which is frequently serviced, providing fresh bed linen and towels. Most rooms will be complete with a balcony, possibly a sea view but without kitchen facilities. The reason being that most guests will want to benefit from the hotel’s own restaurant and bar facilities. This is usually done on an all-inclusive, full board or half board basis. However, some also provide a breakfast only option for those looking to dine out in the resort instead – which the hotel is usually located within.
Of course, it’s not just food and drink you’ll be paying for. Access to the hotel’s swimming pool(s) and leisure facilities usually comes as standard, and evening entertainment is often provided free by way of a music or live performance act. You’ll also find the hotel runs lots of activities for children too.

Aparthotels
Becoming more and more popular, an Aparthotel provides a more flexible way of holidaying. Also known as an ‘apartment hotel’, you’ll still get some of the benefits of a hotel but your accommodation will come fully equipped kitchen and often with separate living and sleeping areas. Aparthotels are often the preferred choice for families.
Aparthotels are usually lower-rise in terms of building height, and as such sea views can be more of a lucky find rather than a given. Of course, some will allow you to pay extra for such a feature to your room. They also tend to be a little quieter than the larger hotels, with a little less communal entertainment, but this will largely depend on the Aparthotel itself and number of guests it can accommodate.
Food options vary too – some will provide as much choice as the larger hotels whereas other aparthotels may have a limited menu and restaurant opening times. You will usually find the option to go half board is available at the time of booking. If not, do check before booking, because if eating in the aparthotel is important, you may find you’ll need to pay full price for evening meals at your table – and some may even not have their own restaurant – either way, dining out in the resort will be become more necessary.
Due to the restrictions on building height imposed during the 1970’s, the aparthotel became increasingly popular in Menorca,. You’ll find a wide choice of this typer of accommodation in each resort.
Villas in Menorca
For a little more privacy, with space to call your own, a villa holiday is a great option. Many villas in Menorca boast their own swimming pool and a luxury that’s hard to beat on a hot, sunny day. You’ll also find either or even both, a garden area and terrace – and where space is limited, often roof top terrace instead. The villas tend be located a little further from the resort centres, so bear this in mind before booking.
Of course, a villa holiday doesn’t come cheap, but prices can be offset by sharing your holiday with friends or family. If you are visiting Menorca as part of a large group, then substantially sized villas and homes for rental can often be found outside of the resorts with a number located rurally, so do ensure you hire a car so that you can easily transport provisions and groceries from the nearest town.
Self Catering Apartments
You’ll of course find self catering apartments in Menorca at the aforementioned aparthotels, but you’ll also find the the term used to describe villa-like properties. These larger ‘apartments’ are unlikely to have their own pool, but a shared pool is often a feature you’ll have full access too. This pool will be shared with the guests of other properties that fall under the umbrella name of the wider complex or even on the road in which they belong. Not all have pools, but this can often be offset by other redeeming features – such as a stunning sea view. Many of these apartments are privately owned and can be booked via the likes of AirBnb, Booking.com etc. Alternatively, small, independent travel agencies may have a selection of properties that they manage in certain resorts.
The location of apartments and proximity to the centre of the resorts in Menorca vary greatly. Whilst many are within easy reach or a resort’s facilities and restaurants, others may require a little effort to reach from your accommodation. Renting a car is usually recommended for those a little further afield.
